In the contemporary world, silence has gradually taken part in diverse scientific areas, particularly to the ones involving the human being. In the face of continuing noise which may hinder the act of listening, men and women all over the world come out as prophets who announce the necessity for silence towards meaningful existence. Among numerous scientific sources, liturgy reveals silence as a credible gesture which significantly contributes to the celebration of the Paschal Mystery. The life of Jesus and his disciples was marked by gestures of silence. In several episodes, Christ and his followers kept in silence in order to listen to the Holy Father. Silence is a path which leads to the Mystery of Faith. From such an enlightening perspective, it is noteworthy that spreading rumors found in society have affected liturgy somehow, in defense of pseudo-participation, which might appear active, conscientious, plentiful and fruitful in Christian celebrations. Considering the fact that silence is essential for the Paschal Mystery, in the sense of entailing the whole Christian existence, church communities are invited to comprehend the significance of silence as a clear manifestation of God, since liturgy is a rich source of spirituality. In this thesis, silence is portrayed as a liturgical-sacramental reality. The metaphysical thought of Xavier Zubiri, which characterizes reality as an immediate source of all knowledge, widened the scope of the study. In our time, Liturgy is likely to take on an interdisciplinary nature, under the marked influence of Philosophy. The interaction between the two aforementioned sciences points out that silence – a liturgical-sacramental reality – shall be internalized once the church community rediscovers the strength of a such liturgical element, revealing God as the fundamental reality of the whole creation. Silence in liturgy does not correspond to temporary escape from the world; indeed, it is a path to the Paschal Mystery, a Christian-based reality, savored by the members of the church community
