In a logically structured analysis through bibliographic review and examination of civil procedural legislation, this study introduces the fundamental institutions of jurisdiction, action, process and procedure, highlighting the imperative for systematization to ensure the State's jurisdictional function is administered appropriately and effectively. Having outlined the paths to be followed by the parties, default arises when one of the points of this trajectory is overlooked, leading to both substantive and procedural consequences. The focus here is on a specific scenario in which the presumption of veracity of factual allegations made by the plaintiff is nuanced: the existence of multiple defendants and the submission of a defense by any of them. Recognizing that the rebuttal of the presumption of veracity does not hinge solely on the existence of passive joinder and the presentation of a defense by any co-defendant, this work deliberates extensively on the effects of default under such circumstances
