The goal of this study is to investigate how the students of an initial grade of a public high school of São Paulo perceive their learning of English after the implementation of the “Caderno do Aluno” in 2008. This grade was chosen because they completed the use of that didactic material in 6th, 7th and 8th grades of elementary school. The theoretical foundation of this study was based on the conceptions of teaching and learning, the content displayed on the “Caderno do Aluno” (Elementary school, 6th .7th. and 8th grades), the study and analysis of the National Curriculum Parameters (BRAZIL, 1998) and the Curricular Proposed for the State of São Paulo and the documents that are considered the guide for the teaching of English in the state. The research is characterized as a case study and it was developed in a state public school, in Sao Bernardo do Campo city, in São Paulo. The participants are students of the 1st grade of High School, belonging to the evening shift. The results showed that they learned some content in the 6 th, 7th. and 8th grades of the. Elementary School and “Caderno do Aluno” is good and helps in the English classes; however some modifications are necessary
