Resumo: The objective of this course conclusion paper is to approach the discussion concerning society’s perspective around its monuments by analyzing and comparing two monuments in the city of São Paulo in addition to the impacts of their ideological projects. The research presents the extensive history of displacement of the Federico Garcia Lorca Monument (1968), by Flávio de Carvalho, from its conception to reimplementation in 1979, contextualizing the creation of the Borba Gato Statue (1963), by Júlio Guerra, talking through the mythology of the Bandeirantes present at the instauration time and the recent attacks the statue has recently suffered. As of these studies, the exercise of memory rewriting through the monuments will be explored, addressing initiatives that bring the public closer to this discussion. Projects will be analyzed such as the Demonumenta, regarding the monument as a dispute of power, and the Caminhada do Silêncio, that incorporates the monument as a memory space

A pesquisa apresenta o extenso histórico de deslocamentos do Monumento a Federico Garcia Lorca (1968), de Flávio de Carvalho, desde a sua concepção até a reimplantação, em 1979, e contextualiza a criação da Estátua de Borba Gato (1963), de Júlio Guerra, passando pela mitologia bandeirantista presente na época da instauração e por alguns dos ataques recentes sofridos pela escultura. A partir destes estudos, percorre-se, ainda, pelo exercício de reescritura da memória através dos monumentos, abordando iniciativas que aproximam o público dessa discussão.
