The currency is the primary exchange instrument used by people within a society, and its temporal evolution is inevitably linked to the development of technology and changes in economic and social relations. Money is a relevant object of study for various fields of knowledge. From classical thinkers to the most contemporary ones, many authors have dedicated themselves to investigating and understanding the role and importance of currency in the economy and its social ramifications. From Aristotle, who discussed the nature and functions of money in his work, to recent authors like Friedrich Hayek, who expressed opinions in favor of private and decentralized currency, money has been the subject of studies and critical reflections by many theorists throughout history. Currently, with the growing importance of technologies and cryptocurrencies, new considerations and perspectives have emerged, and currencies and their derivatives continue to be a relevant and constantly evolving topic for economic scholars.
