Resumo: This work was carried out by means of literature, including books and periodicals, as well as scientific articles available on the internet. The goal is to present the most relevant aspects and present a topic that has repercussions on the lives of millions of people worldwide: a wage garnishment to settle debts. The aim is to examine the extent and interpretation of Article 649 IV of the Civil Code, which deals with the nature of immunity from seizure of funds to pay off debts. This study seeks to demonstrate that the current jurisprudence on the subject, which is indifferent to the interests of creditors, no longer meets social expectations for the effectiveness of civil enforcement, seeking better fitness and balance of interests of debtor and creditor, as defended by virtually all of the current procedural doctrine

O objetivo é o de apresentar os aspectos mais relevantes e atuais de um assunto que tem repercussão na vida de milhões de pessoas no mundo inteiro: a penhora salarial para quitação de dívidas. Visa-se o exame da extensão e da interpretação do artigo 649, IV, do Código de Processo Civil, que trata da impenhorabilidade de verbas de natureza salarial para quitação de dívidas.
