Bullying is an old practice. However, its designation is recent. The Norwegian Dan Olweus was the precursor of the studies on bullying in the 70’s after observing a high suicide rate among children. It is an act that can cause irreversible damages to social relationships and health. Bullying is in a more common form than we may imagine, for thousands of people are harassed by bullies in various environments: academic, work, and virtual. There is no doubt that bullies bring intense suffering to victims, causing devastating consequences. This work will focus specifically on academic bullying. To extinguish this problem, we first need to identify and understand the actions within bullying to then take action against it. The study was made utilizing bibliographical research on the subject, referencing the authors DR. GUSTAVO TEIXEIRA (2011), ANA BEATRIZ BARBOSA SILVA (2010), DEBORAH CARPENTER E CHRISTOPHER J. FERGUSON (2011), JOEL HARBER (2012) and LÉLIO BRAGA CALHAU (2010). The conclusion reached through the study was that empowering teachers to act in various situations of academic bullying is the only way to address and solve this problem, while training of teachers is also important. Furthermore, observing the behavior of individual students is indispensable; extremely aggressive or extremely shy students should receive special attention
