Resumo: The objective is to explore the conditions of the accommodation for the elderly in order to show their response and management capabilities for the covid-19 pandemic. The northern border region of Mexico is taken as a case study, where studies on institutionalized old age are still scarce. The analysis was carried out with data from the INEGI Social Assistance Housing Census of 2020. The findings point to moderately sufficient material conditions, but not optimal, very limited medical and health services and few personnel in addition to having little training, which leaves the elderly unprotected in the face of a health, economic and social crisis such as the one experienced in the last two years.
