Resumo: Disability appears as an important paradigm for health care for the elderly. The aim of this study was to verify the prevalence of disability in the elderly and analyze the cultural sociodemographic factors associated. The prevalence of disability was 2,5% for the “DLBA” and 7,1% for “IADL” and there was the association between the age 80 years old and disability for “IADL” (p<0,001). The results found reinforce the stock needs, especially prevention, in order to ensure independence and functionality to the elder. Keywords: Health of the Elderly; Disabled Persons; Health Surveys.

La meta de este estudio fue comprobar el predominio de IF en los ancianos y analizar los factores sociodemográficos asociados. El predominio de la IF fue de un 2,5% para ABVD y un 7,1% para el AIVD, y se observó una asociación entre la edad mayor de 80 años y la IF para AIVD (p <0,001). Los resultados refuerzan la necesidad de una acción, especialmente para la prevención, con el fin de garantizar la independencia y la funcionalidad de las personas mayores.Palabras clave: Salud del Anciano; Personas con Discapacidad; Encuestas Epidemiológicas. A incapacidade funcional (IF) surge como um importante paradigma para a assistência à saúde do idoso. O objetivo desse estudo foi verificar a prevalência de IF em idosos e analisar os fatores sociodemográficos associados. A prevalência de IF foi de 2,5% para as ABVD e de 7,1% para as AIVD, e observou-se associação entre idade superior a 80 anos e IF para AIVD (p<0,001).
