Resumo: ABSTRACT: This study is aimed to understand the perception of informal male caregivers of elderly relatives about the caregiver role. In addition to analyze the possible difficulties arising from their daily activities. Methods: Qualitative research using the case study method, with application of semi-structured interviews to informal caregivers of the elderly, assisted by the Clinic for Caregivers of the Discipline of Geriatrics and Gerontology. Results: The results from the interviewed caregivers' narratives show the duality of the care experience with the elderly family member. On the one hand, there are those that evoke feelings of gratitude and reciprocity, however, there are also those that point to overload and social isolation as a result of this daily care. Among the discourses, the importance of institutional support for the caregiver is also perceived as a way of maintaining their own health.

También analizó los posibles obstáculos provenientes de sus actividades diárias. Métodos: Investigación cualitativa mediante el método de estudio de caso, con aplicación de entrevistas semiestructuradas a cuidadores informales de ancianos, asistidos por la Clínica de Cuidadores de la Disciplina de Geriatría y Gerontología. Resultados: Con base en las narrativas de los cuidadores entrevistados, los resultados muestran la dualidad de la experiencia del cuidado con el familiar anciano, existen, por un lado, aquellos que señalan sentimientos de gratitud y reciprocidad, sin embargo, también existen aquellos que apuntan la sobrecarga y aislamiento social como resultado del cuidado diario. Entre los discursos, también se observa la importancia del apoyo institucional al cuidador como una forma de mantener la propia salud.O presente estudo teve por objetivo compreender a percepção de homens cuidadores informais de familiares idosos acerca do papel de cuidador, além de analisar as possíveis dificuldades advindas de suas atividades diárias. Pesquisa qualitativa utilizando o método estudo de caso, com aplicação de entrevista semiestruturada a cuidadores informais de idosos, atendidos pelo Ambulatório para Cuidadores da Disciplina de Geriatria e Gerontologia. Os resultados, a partir das narrativas dos cuidadores entrevistados, evidenciam a dualidade da experiência do cuidado com o idoso familiar: há, por um lado, os que evocam sentimentos de gratidão e reciprocidade, porém, há também aqueles que apontam a sobrecarga e o isolamento social como resultado desse cuidado exercido diariamente.
