Resumo: | Starting from the premise that the notion of musical performance is the key factor for enjoying pop music, we discuss the role of the YouTube and Twitter platforms in the reconfiguration of this experience. To this end, we analyze the U2 concert broadcast on YouTube, which captured the largest audience of simultaneous access to the website, and its repercussions in real time on Twitter, based on which we seek to explore the notion of computer mediated performance. We will discuss the concept of performance starting from Simon Frith’s argument and extending the discussion to aspects not covered by the author, such as the central role of technological mediations in this process. Finally, we will discuss the characteristics of YouTube and Twitter, linking them to the discussion about the reconfiguration of the audience’s role based on participatory culture. |
