Redes internacionais de pesquisa e excelência da pós-graduação : visão de pesquisadores da área da medicina

The evaluation of the strictu sensu post-graduation in Brazil is performed by the Coordination of Superior Level Staff Improvement – CAPES, foundation of the Ministry of Education – MEC. By playing this role it establishes basic guidelines according to the advencements in science, searching for a standard of excellence. The formalized post-graduation programmes work for the best results in their evaluations, considering that a good grade implies quality and that reflects in research promotion. A maximum rated programme is characterized with “academic excellence” and, to be excellent, it must fulfill internationalization criteria, substantiated in International Research Networks. Thus, the objective of the following dissertation was to verify the relation between the international research networks and the post-graduation excellence levels in a Post-graduation Programme of Excellence, in the medical field. At first, this case of study, supported in the qualitative approach with technical processes of document analysis, went through the documents of the Medicine/Capes field, regarding to the internationalization topic. Thereafter, the researcher professors accredited to a post-graduation programme with the maximum grade received by CAPES, were urged, through semistructured interview, to present their vision about internationalization and outline the International Research Networks contribution to the excellence of the post-graduation. Using the Discursive Textual Analysis – DTA methodological tool, a definition has been reached about what CAPES considers as internationalization for the medical field. By contrast, how the researchers effectively see this actions in practice, considering the reality of their activities. Finally, by describing its collaboration networks, how they form itselves and their importance to the scientific global community, it was possible to foresee that the activities of the research networks and its originating results represent today way beyond the resulting scientific production for the involved group. The activities derived from the networks can bring benefits to a much greater group than the actual network itself, since invisible associations are formed and, the obtained data, as well as the consiganted relationships between its members, end up benefiting a larger group from outside of the network.
