Resumo: The purpose of this work is to analyze the perceptions of university professors in Rio Grande do Sul about the implications of continuing education in the teaching career. Continuing education is, more than ever, a necessity for those who have teaching as a profession. In recent decades, it has been possible to follow several changes in the world. Higher Education institutions were not left out of this process. For the professor, seeking constant updating makes all the difference in the qualification of teaching practice. Therefore, the problem of this research has the following question: what were the perceptions of continuing education in the teaching career of university professors? The methodological course resulted in a qualitative research, of an exploratory nature, carried out through semi-structured interviews with three professors. For analysis, the assumptions of Content Analysis were used (BARDIN, 2016). The following categories of analysis were elaborated: professional teaching choice, knowledge necessary for teaching, institutional support, pedagogical support and collaboration among peers. It was possible, through the chosen categories and the analysis of the teachers' answers, to observe which strategies the professionals used to circumvent the difficulties found during the teaching and pedagogical path

A formação continuada é, mais do que nunca, uma necessidade para quem tem o ensino como profissão. Nas últimas décadas, tem sido possível acompanhar uma série de mudanças no mundo. As instituições de Educação Superior não ficaram de fora desse processo. Para o professor ou professora, buscar atualização constante faz toda a diferença para a qualificação da prática docente. Sendo assim, o problema dessa pesquisa tem o seguinte questionamento: quais seriam as implicações da formação continuada na carreira docente dos professores universitários? Esta pesquisa visa analisar as percepções da formação continuada na carreira docente na perspectiva dos professores universitários identificando e compreendendo as dificuldades que os professores enfrentam no trabalho pedagógico. É uma pesquisa qualitativa e narrativa com uma abordagem descritiva. Foi utilizado como instrumento de coleta de dados uma entrevista com perguntas abertas ligadas diretamente ao tema do estudo. A partir dessas análises, buscou-se verificar as estratégias utilizadas pelos professores para melhoria dos seus processos pedagógicos. Os instrumentos para coleta de dados são entrevistas individuais com professores universitários. O percurso metodológico constituiu em uma pesquisa qualitativa de caráter exploratório, realizada através de entrevistas semiestruturadas com três docentes. Para análise, foram utilizados os pressupostos da Análise de Conteúdo por Bardin (2016). No processo de análise foram elaboradas as seguintes categorias: Escolha profissional docente, saberes necessários à docência, apoio institucional, suporte pedagógico e colaboração entre os pares.
