Resumo: Based on an extensive bibliographic review, this article analyzes in an original way aspects of the tutelary administration of the Terena people by the SPI, seeking to understand how the legal tutelage, instituted to provide protection and assistance to the indigenous people, was managed in practice, the effects it caused in the administered population and the strategies undertaken by the indigenous people to resist the colonial domination in this context.
