Resumo: This article deals with education in Pará in the First Republic and aims to study school inspection in the early twentieth century. To do so, we developed a documentary research, from sources available in the public archives and Pará library, as well as a bibliographical survey, consulting contemporary works, in order to construct a literature review on the subject. The serious concerns of the governors with the consolidation of the new system of instruction had in the inspection a primordial role, given its importance and power consigned in the attributions defined by the General Regulation of the Teaching.

Para ello, desarrollamos una investigación documental, a partir de fuentes disponibles en el archivo público y biblioteca paraense, y también un levantamiento bibliográfico, consultando obras contemporáneas, para construir una revisión de la literatura producida sobre el asunto. Las graves preocupaciones de los gobernadores con la consolidación del nuevo sistema de instrucción tuvieron en la inspección papel primordial, dada su importancia y poder consignados en las atribuciones definidas por el Reglamento General de la Enseñanza.Este artigo trata da educação no Pará na Primeira República e visa ao estudo da inspeção escolar no início do século XX. Para tanto, desenvolvemos uma pesquisa histórica a partir de fontes disponíveis no arquivo público e na biblioteca paraense, assim como um levantamento bibliográfico, consultando obras contemporâneas, de modo a construir uma revisão da literatura produzida sobre o assunto.
