Resumo: Currently, deforestation and clandestine inerts extraction are two illegal activities taking place on the islands of Sao Tome and Principe. These actions are mainly due to the exponential increase of the population and the necessity to use materials such as wood and sand for the construction of buildings. Therefore, in this work, one seeks to establish sustainable development concepts through new construction methods, meeting the present needs and safeguarding the future of next generations. Therefore, based on the experiences acquired along the professional career and the possibility of accomplish two projects with real clients, it was possible to investigate several popular construction techniques, in order to become models to find current techniques, based on materials such as earth coming from Sao Tome. The goal of the dissertation is to make known these materials and construction systems based on the experience of designing two houses in Sao Tome.
