Uma atividade criativa com luz e sombra no 1º Ciclo do Ensino Básico

Highlighting the important role of the inter-relationship between the school and nonformal learning spaces, related with creative and innovative learning experiences, we present a study developed with students of the 4th year of the first cycle of basic education (9 years old), taking as research problem the understanding in what extension the realization of practical activities in the Garden of Castelo Branco (Jardim do Paço) stimulates science/mathematics learning and has impact on student learning at curricular level. In this perspective, we constructed and validated didactical resource and materials whose objective is to promote science/math learning, held in a non-formal education space, complementing the formal spaces with aspects arising from the relationship with the social and cultural environment. We present and analyze one of the proposed activities in a pedagogical visit to the Jardim do Paço, based on the observation and measurement of the shadows of the pupils. In terms of emotional involvement and attitudes, the results were very positive and relevant, also taking place significant and contextualized learning at the level of knowledge and skills.
