Resumo: We report the use of the Genetic Algorithm (GA) in the optimization of a distributed Raman amplifier spectralgain. The used methodology is based on the direct integrationof Raman propagation equations making use of the transfermatrix method, which ensue into a considerable reduction ofthe computation time. Pointing out an on/off Raman gain of10 dB, we develop a technique based in a combination of theGA with the Nelder Mead simplex method that selects theappropriate power level values as well as the operatingwavelengths for the pumping lasers. By this way, we optimizea system with 5 pumping lasers the gain of 16 signals over abandwidth of 50 nm.

A metodologia usada baseia-se na integração directa das equações de propagação de Raman usando o método da matriz de transferência, de que resulta uma considerável redução do tempo de computação. Apontando para um ganho on/off de 10 dB, desenvolveu-se uma metodologia baseada na combinação do AG com o método de Nelder-Mead que permite a determinação dos valores apropriados para a potência e para o comprimento de onda a ser usados nos lasers de bombeamento.
