Analysing “Gula’s for Kitchen Lovers” and its franchising opportunity

Resumo: The present master thesis has, as main objective, the analysis of the company “A Minha Gula - Gula’s for Kicthen Lovers” and, more precisely, its franchising viability. “A Minha Gula” is a restaurant located in the Saldanha area in Lisbon that serves gourmet and typical Portuguese food. This project started by researching the information necessary to understand the concept of franchising, including the advantages and disadvantages, the relationship between the two parties and the legal requirements. After obtaining this information, a market analysis was carried out in order to analyse the business opportunities, considering several factors, internal and external. Adding to that, two interviews were made, one to the CEO of the restaurant in question and another to the CEO of a franchised restaurant chain. Finally, to understand if this project could or not be lucrative, a financial evaluation was made based for a prototypical franchisee, and the projected income and monthly costs were made, resulting in net monetary return. In the end, it was concluded that the elaboration of this project was viable due to the figures presented.

In the end, it was concluded that the elaboration of this project was viable due to the figures presented.Esta tese de mestrado tem como principal objetivo analisar a empresa “A Minha Gula – Gula’s for Kicthen Lovers” e, mais concretamente, a sua viabilidade de franchising. “A Minha Gula” é um restaurante situado na zona do Saldanha em Lisboa que serve comida gourmet e típica portuguesa. Este projeto começou pela investigação de informação necessária a perceber o conceito de franchising, incluindo as vantagens e desvantagens, a relação entre as duas partes e os requisitos legais. Depois de obter essa informação foi feita uma análise de mercado com o objetivo de analisar as oportunidades do negócio, tendo em conta diversos fatores, internos e externos. Acrescentando a isso, foram feitas duas entrevistas, uma à CEO do restaurante em questão e outra ao CEO duma cadeia de restaurantes franchisados. Por fim foi elaborado um plano de financiamento para abertura de um restaurante-tipo franchisado e projetados os valores de faturação e custos mensais, resultando no retorno monetário líquido.
