Resumo: Diatoms are photosynthetic organisms that are very important for the marine ecosystem and are the basis of primary production in these habitats. Knowing the importance of this group, this work aims to investigate if chemical stress affects the Epigenetic of diatoms. For that, it was verified the resistance of the microalgae Phaeodactylum tricornutum when expose to the antibiotic ciprofloxacin and to the metal cadmium. An attempt was made to verify what would be the best conditions to extract the greatest amount of DNA possible. It was verified that increasing concentrations of the antibiotic and the metal decreased the growth rate and the yield in the productivity of the cultures. It was also found that the cells when exposed to constant light show a decrease in health after 3 days under the conditions, leading to a low amount of extracted DNA.
