Resumo: Considering the several systems that influence the adolescent, we aimed, in this study, to study the influence of familiar functionality in the adolescent’s psychological adjustment and the differences between these variables according to gender and age. This exploratory study was carried out with a sample of 318 adolescents from the centre of Portugal. The quantitative analysis of results was done using SPSS 15.0 software, drawing the following conclusions: a) the not independent familiar functioning patterns correlate negatively with anti-social, depressive and obsessive behaviours; the collaborative patterns present negative correlations with the depressive and obsessive behaviours; and b) female adolescents present higher values of depressive, anxious, obsessive and pro-social behaviour.

L’étude exploratoire a été réalisée avec une échantillon de 318 adolescents de la région centrale de Portugal. L’analyse quantitative des résultats a été fait avec le software SPSS 15.0, en concluant que : a) les normes de fonctionnement familier non indépendant se correlationnent négativement avec les comportements antisocial, dépressif et obsessif ; celons de fonctionnement familier collaboratif présentent corrélations négatives avec les comportements dépressif et obsessif; et b) les adolescentes du sexe féminin présentent plus hauts valeurs de comportements dépressif, anxieux, obsessif et pro-social.Tendo em conta os vários sistemas que influenciam o adolescente, pretendemos, neste estudo, estudar a influência da funcionalidade familiar no ajustamento psicológico do adolescente e as diferenças entre estas variáveis de acordo com o sexo e idade. O estudo exploratório foi realizado com uma amostra de 318 adolescentes da zona centro de Portugal.
