Resumo: | The intricate relationship between architecture and cinema reveals itself in a multitude of ways, but finds particular prominence when delving into depictions of future scenarios, particularly in the realm of dystopian cinema. Within science fiction, we witness a canvas for the artistic exploration of the myriad of dilemmas that humanity confronts. Its cinematic representation serves as a faithful chronicle of the ever-fluctuating anxieties that have gripped us throughout the last century. In this context, architecture plays a pivotal role in shaping and authenticating these complex visions of the future. Its task extends beyond mere backdrop creation, it carries embedded intentions, critiques, satires, and metaphors that filmmakers aspire to convey. This research zeroes in on the architectural dimension responsible for constructing these bleak scenarios. Specifically, it delves into the motivations behind the inclusion of specific architectural works or styles in dystopian settings, explores the references used to craft these alternative worlds, and dissects the commonalities that unite them while highlighting their distinctive features. The use of existing and/or fictional architecture is approached in a panoramic journey through the last century of cinema, culminating in a more detailed analysis of seven case studies that have achieved immortality in their timeless reflections. |
