Resumo: This essay proposes to analyse the role of a last will and testament and of an entitlement of heirs as a means of post mortem communication, meticulously shaped by its own cultural aspect. Based on a Masters dissertation working within the Portuguese-English language pairing, we start by giving a theoretical background on translation, moving on to an historical context for the documents at hand, so as to better show their role in society. We then carry out a terminological and discursive analysis that intends to identify – and solve – potentially problematic issues that may vex the translator. As such, we hope to contribute to the development of methodologies to better translate testaments and entitlements of heirs.

Entra-se depois numa fase de levantamento terminológico-discursivo, que pretende identificar – e resolver – questões potencialmente problemáticas que poderão assomar o tradutor que se aventure nesta tipologia textual.
