Resumo: | This dissertation, presented according to the Master Degree in Architecture of the Faculty of Architecture of the University of Oporto (FAUP), is based on the study about materials made of baked clay, with a final use, in a project of a single family house, with the aim of assessing their relevance and application in Portugal. The construction materials analyzed in this context are the brick and ceramic tile. The brick and the tile are materials with thousands of history, following different developments in various countries, as well as in Portugal. Both had a delicate but different path in the Portuguese architecture. The brick façade has never managed to establish itself continuously in the Portuguese architecture and the covering in ceramic tile, after the modern movement, became a source of conflict. In this work, these materials will be studied for their role in the building enveloping, from the surfaces enclosing the building - the roof and the façade, to the surfaces that surround it - the pavement and adjacent walls, trying to create a landscape of 'baked clay'. In this sense, the study concerns only the exterior use of these ceramic materials. It is expected to illustrate through the project of architecture, which are the advantages and disadvantages of using these construction materials made of baked clay, in a contemporary project. Initially there is a presentation of the construction materials, contextualizing them in History, giving the characteristics, properties and their methods of use on the construction site. In a later chapter it is presented the case study where it is proposed the use of these construction materials made of baked clay. Here are presented the construction details chosen and the motivations for their use. |
