This paper studies the exposition of the personal pronouns in thegramaticography of Portuguese published in the 18th century. This study takes as astarting point the treatment of these forms in the 16th- and 17th-century Portuguesegrammars, in order to determine trends in the grammatical description throughout thisperiod regarding the integration of these units into subclasses of words. In this sense,two general criteria are established: the intercategorial organization - in authors whoare followers of the previous grammar - and the intracategorial reorganization - that constitutes an evolution of the former, although the two trends occur simultaneously.The integration of the clitic pronouns in the different schemes of description, whichwere reported in the grammars studied, is also analyzed separately.
