Resumo: | The novel “The Frogs” by Mo Yan, a Nobel Prize-winning Chinese writer, has attracted widespread attention since its publication, as it is a controversial novel based on a very special historical period in China, “Family Planning”, and through which the author seeks to show us his reflections on the life and future of humanity. Ecocriticism consists of a school of literary criticism developed in the 1990s in the West. As it is a method that links the theory of ecocriticism to literary works, it focuses mainly on the relationship between ecology, humanity, and literature. Ecological criticism explores the rich ecological connotations in the works, awakening the public’s ecological awareness and helping the public to reconnect with nature. In addition to criticising the consequence of the practice of the family plan, we can observe that this work is full of narratives about the relationships between the sexes, about which, critical comments are also observed to this effect. With a view to amplifying our study while, at the same time, focusing on the ecological theme, through the use of theories relating to ecological criticism, we, also adopted the critical considerations of ecofeminism in the translation analysis of the relationships between men and women. Throughout this article, the ecological phenomena will be analysed in the Portuguese translation of this novel, under the ecocritical perspective. Specifically, we will analyse the translation strategies used by the Brazilian translator Amilton Reis when translating these ecological factors, in order to provide suggestions for future work on literary translation under this perspective. |
