Development of a business plan to strategically expand the eSports branch of Sport Lisboa e Benfica – key trends in the industry and entry strategy

Resumo: In this paper, a business plan is developed to strategically expand the eSports branch of SL Benfica. It answers the challenge of how traditional football clubs can effectively reach a younger fan base and diversify their revenue sources through eSports. Based on a market and game analysis, a business plan with several scenarios to enter CS:GO has been developed and complemented with a five-year financial forecast. The most critical aspects of the project’s economic success are sponsorship deals and competitive performance. Following a thorough analysis, this paper recommends expanding into the CS:GO eSports business considering the achieved medium-term profitability.
