The transformation powered by the adoption and use of disruptive technologies such as 5G network, Cloud Technology (CT), Internet of Things (IoT), Artificial Intelligence (AI) & Machine Learning (ML), Advanced Robotics, augmented (AR) and Virtual Reality (VR) and Big Data (BD) led to changes in the organization processes, ways of working, product, and service conception. The disruptive technologies, when correctly employed have the potential to improve productivity, reduce costs, create new offerings, mitigate, and reduce risk, creating and unlocking value to companies. It is a consensus among scholars and practitioners that the COVID 19 outbreak totally changed and accelerated the need for the adoption of digital technologies, not simply by surfing the trend, but for the survival of the organizations. The Pharmaceutical and Healthcare industries are among the companies that lately have been employing disruptive technologies to become more efficient and innovative, looking to improve internal processes, reducing cost, driving innovation, mitigating risks, developing of new offerings of products and services. Using a Design Science Research and survey with experienced professionals, it was found that the most relevant factors to the adoption of disruptive technology within pharmaceutical and healthcare are “Leadership sponsorship”, “Clear digital transformation long term vision/strategy”, “Willingness to experiment”. Considering the adoption and use of disruptive technologies drives significant changes in the organizations, the objective of this thesis is to seek understanding on the factors and its relevance to organization under the digital transformation process, with the intention to shed light on the enablers that should be taken into account by practitioners in this situation. The work developed in this dissertation and the findings could help practitioners to better understand which factors should be considered during a digital transformation process.
