The construction of social exclusion in inter-ethnic relations: Theoretics and research orientations in a development perspective

Resumo: In this article a review is presented of children's development of ethnic categorisation, self-categorisation and group identification both in research on native vs. long settled non-native low-status minorities and in research on native vs. recent immigrant low status minorities. It is argued that intergroup interaction attitudes and behavioural strategies will be partially distinct in these two conditions and consequently that minority adjustment orientations should play a mediator role between groups' relative positions and intergroup attitudes and behaviours. DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.17575/rpsicol.v16i2.481Revê-se neste artigo a literatura o desenvolvimento da categorização, da autocategorização e  da identificação étnicas das crianças à luz, quer dos estudos com grupos nativos e de imigração recente, nomeadamente na Europa. Argumenta-se que as estratégias de interacção intergrupal serão parcialmente distintas nas duas situações, devendo por isso ser tomadas em consideração as orientações adaptativas dos grupos minoritários e de baixo estatuto étnico nos dois contextos, enquanto variáveis moderadoras das avaliações e dos comportamentos intergrupais.
