Students from Guinea-Bissau in Portugal – ISCSP-ULISBOA: : Motivations, daily challenges, sociability networks and future perspectives

Resumo: | This paper discusses aspects of Bissau-Guinean students’ experiences in Portuguese higher education, focusing on motivations to enroll in higher education in Portugal, daily challenges experienced, sociability networks and prospects of students from the Institute of Social and Political Sciences (ISCSP) of the University of Lisbon. Methodologically, this study used documental research and analysis, literature review, questionnaires, and semi-structured interviews. For our main results, the study points out the importance of the leading role students play in constituting actions towards the welcoming and permanence in higher education in Portugal and towards implementing to the academic everyday life curricular contents, matters and themes concerning Africa. At the same time, we noticed an absence of institutional policies towards student aid that support these students, as well as the absence of curricular contents, themes and matters concerning Africa in the curricular pedagogical projects and institutional actions of undergraduate courses. |

Metodologicamente, trabalhou-se com pesquisa e análise bibliográfica e documental, aplicação de inquéritos por questionário e entrevistas semiestruturadas. Como principais resultados destaca-se a importância do protagonismo estudantil na constituição de ações para acolhimento e permanência na educação superior em Portugal e para inscrever no cotidiano académico questões, temas e conteúdos curriculares associados à África.
