O pensamento radical de Antonin Artaud é inerentemente marcado pela ideia que não existe libertação, sem a libertação do corpo. Por isso, a crítica da medicina moderna ocupa um lugar importante na sua obra e dramaturgia, em particular como o racionalismo científico era apenas uma outra forma da persistente divisão formalista e regimentada entre corpo físico e espírito. A questão é articulada por Artaud, em particular, como a relação entre doença e civilização, no sentido em que os excessos civilizatórios exaltados na vida moderna, incluindo a pretensão da hegemonia ocidental em relação a outras culturas, são uma doença poderosa contra a saúde do do espírito livre que reside no corpo e que, em última instância, é o corpo. Artaud and Medicine The radical thought of Antonin Artaud is inherently marked by the idea that there is no liberation without the body’s liberation. Therefore, the critique of modern medicine takes an important place in his work and dramaturgy, in particular the way as scientific rationalism is just another form of the persistent formalist and regimented division between the physical body and the immaterial spirit. The issue is articulated by Artaud, in particular, as the relationship between disease and civilization. The civilizatory triumphalism exalted in modern life, including the pretension of the western hegemony over other cultures, is a powerful disease against the health of the free spirit living in the body and which, ultimately, is the body.
