Resumo: | The creation and interpretation of characters, whether two-dimensionally our three-dimensionally, depends on the story they tell and their personalities, since the first impressions and ideas about someone come from the physical appearance, so that, aspects such as body features, facial expression, clothing and posture are determining factors that allow us to analyze someone’s character. The present study and project aims to show how Physiognomy and Phrenology play a very important role, since, not only from their theories, the elaboration of characters becomes more intuitive and specific, but also these are still surprisingly current with respect to image and appearance stereotypes that still exist. The main objective is the reinterpretation and creation of characters of William Shakespeare’s tragedy titled Othello, the Moor of Venice, from its dramaturgical description. The conception and outcome of the chosen characters are based on the literary portrait made by the author and also on the theories defended by Physiognomy and Phrenology. Firstly, all the details about each character in the work are analyzed so that the general personality of the characters and their potencial physical characteristics may be fully understood. In a later stage, we will proceed to the Conception of the characters in a two-dimensional drawing, which serves as basis or study to then move on to its three-dimensional creation. To conclude and in a final stage, it is verified to what extent of the theories of L.A. Vaught, a recognized phrenologist from the XIX century, relate to the physical appearance of an individual and the importance that the pseudo-sciences of Physiognomy and Phrenology have when creating characters and making judgments about someone's character from their appearance |
