Resumo: Several artists resort to cinema to get a closer look of society, to either criticize or praise its values. Since its creation nearing the end of the XIX century by the Lumiére brothers, the cinematic art has been bringing together people and worlds totally different from their own. Architecture expression has always had connections with the other art forms, like painting, sculpture, and, in this case, with cinematography. Cinema can be, in its core, a conductor and creator of architectural languages. Through it, the spectator can experience several different spaces and atmospheres. Cinema plans cities, designs architectural images through its techniques, angles, light/shadow and its narratives in space and time. All these concepts, that are simultaneously in architecture, have their role in the birth of cinematic art. The dissertation, here presented, intends to do an intensive and rigorous study of the relation between these two art forms, that understand each other, architecture and cinema. Even though, there is a lot of cinematographic genres, this dissertation focuses solely on the musical genre. Using the support of various movies selected since the genre's origin in the 1930's, the Golden Age of Hollywood, up until the genre's decline in the 1980's and its rebirth during the 21st century, this work intends to, critically, analyze architectural representation in this genre, that's often forgotten.
