The challenges of universalizing distance education in higher education

Resumo: The pandemic caused by covid-19 has changed the educational scenario. In this sense, the study aims to put into perspective the challenges posed by the need for universal access to Distance Learning (EaD), enriched by networked digital technologies, for higher education students in Angola and Mozambique. The investigation is based on a quantitative descriptive research. Data collection was based on the application of a questionnaire survey. The results of the study show that digital EaD is possible in the countries in question, with almost all (99%) of these students having at least one mobile digital device. On the other hand, access to the Internet, whether in Angola or Mozambique, still has many limitations. In general, students consider the technical, technological conditions and IT equipment available to them at the institution they attend to be reasonable to inadequate.

Neste sentido, o estudo tem como objetivo perspetivar os desafios que se colocam à necessidade de universalidade de acesso ao Ensino a Distância, enriquecido por tecnologias digitais em rede, dos estudantes do Ensino Superior de Angola e de Moçambique. A investigação assume uma abordagem quantitativo, de tipo descritivo. A recolha de dados baseou-se na aplicação de um inquérito por questionário. Os resultados do estudo mostram ser possível o Ensino a Distância digital nos países em questão, visto quase a totalidade (99%) destes estudantes possuírem, pelo menos, um dispositivo digital móvel.
