Access to medical education in Angola: the case of the Medical College of José Eduardo dos Santos University in lective 2019

Resumo: | The medical course proves to be one of the most sought after in the V academic region. Objective: To characterize the candidates for the medical course at the José Eduardo dos Santos University School of Medicine in the academic year 2019. Methodology: Descriptive, quantitative documentary study, using articles published in the Mediline, Scielo and Pubmed and access to databases. registration of candidates for a better understanding of the phenomenon under study. Results: The sample is made up of 1989 candidates for the entrance exam in the academic year 2019. The MD is 21.08 and (SD = 2.4) the majority is female 1087 (54.7%). 1988 (99.9%) reported being single, due to their working conditions, 1986 (99.8%) reported being unemployed, the 20-23 age group of 1284 (64.6%) followed by 24 -26 with 309 (15.5%). The course with the largest number of candidates was general nursing 1025 (51.6%) and then the Physical and Biological Sciences 744 (37.4%). The province with the largest number of candidates was Huambo 1490 (74.9%) followedby Bié 123 (6.2%) and Moxico 101 (5.1%). Regarding the year it was found that 934 (46.96%) completed high school in 2018 and 589 (29.61) in 2017. Regarding the result obtained in the exam, we found that 419 (20.9%) obtained 0 -5 values and 1304 (65.6%) of 6-10 values and 93 (4.2%) obtained from 11-15 values. Regarding the number of attempts to join we found that 1855 (93.3) said they tried twice, 122 (6.1%) four times and 12 (0.6%) said they tried up to seven times. Of these, only 70 (3.52) were admitted as there were only 70 vacanciesdefined as claususnumberand 1919 (96.48) were not admitted. Final considerations: There is a growing demand for medical schoolatthe Huambo Medical School, thus urging the need to improve the institution's installed capacity in order to increase vacancies. |

Objectivo: Caracterizar os candidatos ao curso de medicina na Faculdade de Medicina da Universidade José Eduardo dos Santos no ano lectivo 2019. Metodologia: Estudo descritivo, quantitativo de natureza documental, recorreu-se a artigos publicados na Mediline, Scielo e Pubmed e acesso a bases de inscrição dos candidatos para a melhor compreensão do fenómeno em estudo. Resultados: A amostra é composta por 1989 candidatos ao exame de acesso no ano lectivo 2019 a MD=21,08 e (DP=2,4) a maior parte é do sexo feminino 1087 (54,7%). Quanto ao estado civil 1988 (99,9%) referiram serem solteiros, face a condição laboral, 1986 (99,8%) referiram serem desempregados, destacou-se a faixa etária dos 20-23 anos de 1284 (64,6%) seguida a de 24-26 com 309 (15,5%). A enfermagem geral apresentou-se com maior 1025 (51,6%) e em seguida as Ciências Físicas e Biológicas 744 (37,4%). A província com o maior número de candidatos foi o Huambo 1490 (74,9%) seguida a do Bié 123 (6,2%) e Moxico 101(5,1%). Quanto ao ano verificou-se que 934 (46,96%) concluíram o ensino médio em 2018 e 589 (29,61) em 2017. Em relação ao resultado obtido no exame, verificamos que 419 (20,9%) obtiveram de 0-5 valores e 1304 (65,6%) de 6-10 valores e 93 (4,2%) obtiveram de 11-15 valores. Quanto ano número de tentativas para ingressar constamos que 1855 (93,3) afirmaram terem tentado duas vezes, 122 (6,1%) quatro vezes e 12 (0,6%) afirmaram terem tentado até sete vezes. Destes apenas 70 (3,52) foram admitidos em virtude de existirem apenas 70 Vagas definidas como número clausus e 1919 (96,48) não foram admitidos.
