Resumo: | In his professional practice, João Mendes Ribeiro has reached recognition and notoriety from a specially strict working process, that evolves and persists with the search for the essential, in each one of the proposals that he develops, either in the field of architecture, scenography or expositive project. This dissertation develops from the process of investigation and reflection around this architect, specifically around his creative process, the building of ideas, naming the principles that are behind it and naming the multiple references and authors who, from Architecture and from other disciplinary fields, contaminate his way of seeing, thinking and doing architecture. In a first moment, nominated as Principles, it is the presentation of a biographic narrative of JMR with which we try to adjust his course, specifically his scholar formation and action in the field of Architecture and the main references are made evident, and from these references we may identify the existence of the "traffic" ideas and contaminations, designately around the three key themes. We are talking about minimalism or essentiality in architecture, the connection between space and light and the intervention in the pre-existing buildings of known patrimonial value. In a second moment, designated as Domains, it was developed a study around each one of the three ways of acting of the architect, Scenography, Expositive project and Architecture, considering his interest for different artistical fields, but at the same time considering the opportunity to experiment that as opened and contributed to the richness of his working process and of his work. Thus, starting with the understanding of the contaminations between architecture and scenography, designately the architectonic themes that are transported into the stage and the understanding of the scenic space as an architectonic announcement, we evolve to a study and reflection around architecture and its expositive proposals, establishing connections too with a variety of objects that were conceived specifically in the field of scenography, as well as, around the process of conceiving of the form in the connection with the structural principle that is behind it. To conclude, we will reflect around the foundational connection of the Architecture in general and around the work of JMR in specific, relation between Body and Space. Finally, the third moment, designated as Experience, that is based on the visits to a group of buildings previously selected, the Centro de Artes Visuais, the Casa da Escrita and Arquipélago, the Centro de Artes Contemporâneas, and we try to understand his way of seeing, thinking and doing architecture and identifying the dialogues established between the different fields of action and their constants, designately the group of key concepts that we constantly identify in his work and that characterize it and make it so peculiar. Thus, from the Principles, Domains and Experience we conclude highlighting a group of permanent themes in his work, such as open plant, reversibility, box as container, the connection front and back and vice versa or autonomy of objects, with which we try to contribute with a sense of deepening the knowledge about the work and though of João Mendes Ribeiro. |
