Neste sentido, procura-se estudar a relação entre posicionamento religioso e homofobia internalizada em pessoas LGBTQ+, em Portugal. Para tal, delineou-se uma investigação quantitativa, recorrendo à aplicação de um protocolo online em 116 participantes LGBTQ+. Explorou-se também a associação entre identidade positiva (e respetivas dimensões: autoconsciência, autenticidade, sentido de comunidade, intimidade e justiça social) e o posicionamento religioso; a abertura (à família, ao mundo e à comunidade religiosa) quanto à orientação sexual em função do posicionamento religioso e ainda a comparação em pessoas LGBTQ+ com e sem afiliação religiosa relativamente à centralidade religiosa e homofobia internalizada.A amostra é maioritariamente composta por participantes não religiosos, verificando-se que na subamostra de participantes religiosos (n = 38), 73.7% tem afiliação na religião católica (n = 28). Os resultados obtidos sugerem diferenças estaticamente significativas no que concerne à avaliação do grau de revelação da orientação sexual das pessoas LGBTQ+, verificando-se um maior grau de abertura nos participantes não religiosos. Também a escala de centralidade religiosa, que mede o impacto do conteúdo religioso na experiência subjetiva e no comportamento dos indivíduos, permite identificar diferenças estatisticamente significativas. Os participantes religiosos manifestam maior centralidade religiosa. Os resultados obtidos permitem ainda concluir que não existem diferenças significativas entre as duas subamostras, participantes religiosos e participantes não religiosos, no que respeita às dimensões de identidade positiva, abertura à família e abertura ao mundo.Por fim, e no que concerne ao objetivo principal deste estudo, conclui-se que não são identificadas correlações estatisticamente significativas entre religião, ou posicionamento religioso, e homofobia internalizada. Os valores verificados na subamostra de participantes religiosos e na subamostra de participantes não religiosos, sugerem que a religião não apresenta um impacto relevante na homofobia internalizada.In a society where religious tradition and morality have left deep marks and the processes of change and affirmation of minorities struggle with attitudes and behaviors of distrust and repudiation, internal conflicts also develop. In this sense, we seek to study the relationship between religious positioning and internalized homophobia in LGBTQ+ individuals in Portugal. To this end, an investigation was outlined in a comparative perspective according to the religious position, using a questionnaire with 116 participants. We sought to explore the association between positive identity (and its dimensions of self-awareness, authenticity, sense of community, intimacy, and social justice); openness to their sexual orientation in the dimensions of a family; world and religious community; religious centrality, and internalized homophobia according to religious positioning.In the sample mostly composed of non-religious participants, it is verified that in the universe of religious participants (n = 38), 73.7% have religious affiliation in the catholic religion (n = 28). The results suggest statistically significant differences in the dimension “openness to the religious community”, regarding the revelation of sexual orientation in LGBTQ+ individuals, where is showed a greater degree of openness in non-religious participants. Also, the scale of religious centrality, which measures the impact of religious content on the subjective experience and behavior of individuals, allows the identification of statistically significant differences. Religious participants manifest greater religious centrality. The results obtained also allow us to conclude that there are no significant differences between the two subsamples, religious participants, and non-religious participants, regarding the dimensions of positive identity, openness to the family, and openness to the world.Finally, and regarding the main objective of this study, it is concluded that no statistically significant correlations between religion, religious positioning, and internalized homophobia are identified.
