Resumo: Introduction: Febrile syndromes in adults living in regions with a tropical and/or subtropical climate represent a significant challenge for clinical practice and public health due to their infectious and non-infectious etiological diversity, as well as the lack of effective diagnostic resources. Furthermore, many of these tropical febrile illnesses have similar symptoms, which makes identifying the etiological agent even more difficult. Objectives, material and methods: This essay aims to provide a comprehensive overview of recent progress in the diagnosis of febrile syndromes in adults in tropical regions, highlighting advances in laboratory tests, diagnostic imaging methods and clinical strategies. Results and conclusion: Several evaluation and differential diagnosis strategies for febrile syndromes, particularly in malaria-endemic areas have contributed to a faster, more accurate and more effective diagnosis, allowing timely treatment and prevention of complications. However, challenges remain, and continued research is needed to address the growing public health threats in these regions.

No entanto, ainda persistem desafios, e a investigação contínua é necessária para enfrentar as crescentes ameaças à saúde pública nessas regiões.Universidade Nova de Lisboa2024-01-31info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersioninfo:eu-repo/semantics/articleapplication/pdfhttps://doi.org/10.25761/anaisihmt.465https://doi.org/10.25761/anaisihmt.465Anais do Instituto de Higiene e Medicina Tropical; Vol 22 No 2 (2023): Medicina Tropical e Desenvolvimento Sustentável - 6.º Congresso Nacional de Medicina Tropical; 128-131Anais do Instituto de Higiene e Medicina Tropical; v. 22 n. 2 (2023): Medicina Tropical e Desenvolvimento Sustentável - 6.º Congresso Nacional de Medicina Tropical; 128-1312184-23100303-7762reponame:Repositório Científico de Acesso Aberto de Portugal (Repositórios Cientìficos)instname:Agência para a Sociedade do Conhecimento (UMIC) - FCT - Sociedade da Informaçãoinstacron:RCAAPporhttp://anaisihmt.com/index.php/ihmt/article/view/465http://anaisihmt.com/index.php/ihmt/article/view/465/387Direitos de Autor (c) 2024 Anais do Instituto de Higiene e Medicina Tropicalhttp://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0info:eu-repo/semantics/openAccessMarques, NunoSeixas, Jorge2024-02-14T20:53:07Zoai:ojs.anaisihmt.com:article/465Portal AgregadorONGhttps://www.rcaap.pt/oai/openaireopendoar:71602024-03-20T02:38:14.645380Repositório Científico de Acesso Aberto de Portugal (Repositórios Cientìficos) - Agência para a Sociedade do Conhecimento (UMIC) - FCT - Sociedade da Informaçãofalse
