Resumo: | This project for a master's degree in Museology and Museography proposes the creation of an exhibition space in the premises of the Associação de Coleções | Coleção Berardo, based on the study of a collection of netsuke and okimono owned by this Association. Catalogued by various authors, collectors and lovers of this art form as "Japan in miniature", these sculptures impress with their aesthetic qualities, beauty, expressiveness and balance of forms. When we investigate the themes represented in the netsuke and okimono, they are also remarkable for their almost encyclopaedic number of subjects, to which we can add the sculptors' execution qualities, the care taken with the details of each sculpture or how they exploited the characteristics of the materials they used. The end of the Edo period (1603-1868) put an end to Japan's isolationism from the world. The opening of its ports to foreigners attracted European and American collectors to Japan's most popular art forms. Among these, netsuke were among the most impressive to visitors, who bought them in large quantities. In fact, it was between 1870 and 1890 that the main collections of these small sculptures were formed in the West. The development of the museum proposal is divided into three distinct phases, in which the essential theoretical and technical assumptions for understanding netsuke and okimono are presented, the study of the collection and finally the presentation of the idealized curatorial project. Given the increasingly important role of museums and museum spaces in today's society, the creation of an exhibition dedicated exclusively to this theme would make a decisive contribution to the preservation and dissemination of this heritage, making it possible to learn about realities that are unknown to most people |
