Alfabetização informacional em Portugal: alguns resultados de um projeto de pesquisa

Resumo: The study presents some data on a project that, although focused on the specific case of Portugal, with the intention of making a scientific approach to the challenges of the European Higher Education Area (EHEA) and its impact on the field of information literacy, considering the current context of the Information Society. The main questions that this research aims to answer are: understanding how college students face the new skills required by the creation of the EHEA; how these students are prepared in terms of information competencies in three different times: before the university, during the period University frequency and at the end of graduation at the university. The inter- and transdisciplinary approaches between Education, Cognitive Sciences and Information Science are clearly stated in the epistemological and theoretical model that supports it, benefiting from the interaction between information needs produced in the educational context and the informational universe of students and their dynamics not forgetting to consider the connections of the information behavior of students with their personal and social contexts and requirements. The study is conducted on a national scale, to allow comparisons between regions with different levels of development. The sample includes students of both study cycles. The methodology used in this study is divided into two types, qualitative and quantitative research. Qualitative research will provide valuable indicators on the information behavior of students, expectations, needs and use of information. The indicators obtained in qualitative research will be used to design questionnaires, which will be held in 17 high schools and 17 universities, with a sample estimate of about 2000 students. The end result of this research will be the design of a map of information behavior, at the university level, and the development of a model concerning the promotion of information skills in students of Portuguese universities.
