Integration of digital resources in Portuguese Language class – what is the knowledge shown by the teachers?

Resumo: The use of digital technologies and educational resources (RED) in Portuguese teaching class is not new. New challenges are currently put in the teaching Portuguese language. An essential condition for the teachers integrate effectively the technology in class is to understand the knowledge to make it happen. Mishra and Koehler (2006) present the “Technological Pedagogical Content Knowledge” (TPACK), explaining the teachers’ essential knowledge to integrate RED in class. Supported on their theoretical framework, the present study investigates the TPACK of primary school teachers based on the their own reported practice of RED in Portuguese class. It was an exploratory study with qualitative analysis. A Google enquiry was used to collect teachers’ report. The final number of reports was 843. The findings show that teachers know and use many resources for learning activities in the Portuguese class. Furthermore, teachers have strong conviction that digital resources facilitate learning, including the context and the transfer of linguistic knowledge. Further studies are needed to understand how the TPACK is carried out for the implementation of the Portuguese learning goals.

El profesor enfrenta hoy nuevos retos en la enseñanza del idioma de portugués. Una condición esencial para que el maestro emplee efectivamente la tecnología en la clase es que comprenda el conocimiento necesario para hacerlo. A la luz del marco teórico desarrollado por Mishra y Koehler (2006), este artículo presenta una investigación exploratoria y de naturaleza interpretativa sobre el conocimiento tecnológico pedagógico del contenido (TPACK) que maestros del 1er ciclo del programa de educación básica demuestran a partir de la utilización que dicen hacer de los recursos educativos digitales en la clase de portugués. Se utilizó una encuesta de Google para recopilar el informe de los profesores. El número final de informes fue de 843. Los resultados revelan que conocen y usan muchos recursos para las actividades de aprendizaje del portugués y que los utilizan con la fuerte convicción de que facilitan el aprendizaje, especialmente la transmisión de conocimientos lingüísticos. Sin embargo, se necesitan más estudios para comprender cómo los maestros movilizan el TPACK para las actividades de aprendizaje del portugués.A presença de recursos educativos digitais (RED) na aula de português não é uma novidade. O professor enfrenta hoje novos desafios no ensino da língua portuguesa. Uma condição essencial para o professor integrar de modo efetivo a tecnologia na aula é ter conhecimento necessário para o concretizar. Mishra e Koehler (2006), propõem o modelo teórico “Technological Pedagogical Content Knowledge” (TPACK), explicativo dos conhecimentos essenciais que professores devem ter para integrarem os RED no ensino. À luz deste quadro, apresenta-se uma investigação sobre o TPACK que professores do 1.º ciclo do ensino básico evidenciam, a partir da utilização que dizem fazer dos RED na aula de português. A escolha do quadro metodológico deste estudo exploratório recai numa análise de cariz interpretativo. Recolheram-se declarações de professores do 1.º Ciclo do país através de um questionário online, recorrendo a software de elaboração de inquéritos do Google, disponível gratuitamente na web. Obtiveram-se 843 respostas. As conclusões revelam que os professores conhecem e usam muitos recursos para atividades de aprendizagem do currículo de português. E que os utilizam com a forte convicção que eles facilitam as aprendizagens, nomeadamente a contextualização e a transmissão do conhecimento linguístico.
