Translation Trust on Situations Involving Crowd Translation

Contemporary translation is a highly technologised area not only through machine translation and computer assisted translation, but also through human intervention in collaborative translation platforms like social networks. In this context, this paper intends to allow a greater understanding about the dynamics surrounding the development of collaborative translation processes in social networks (Facebook and Twitter), since collaborative translation platforms for non-professional translators are starting to be a common place in social networks, being promoted by the masses. This phenomenon is commonly known as crowd translation or translations’ crowdsourcing. Therefore, it is necessary to achieve a greater understanding of the trust that compels certain social networks to invest and enhance crowd translation models. It is also analised the trust that leads some volunteer translators to get involved in these projects, despite the eventual lack of competencies to do so. To reflect about this phenomenon this study intends to introduce the concept of Translation Trust, which will be observed through the broad concept of trust and focused on a proposed categorization of three types of translation trust.
