Education for sustainability: public policies vs reality

Resumo: | Although sustainable development seems to be one of the greatest worldwide commitments , we cannot deny that, unfortunately, in Mexico such topic is, in many occasions, only present in the discourses of political elites. In turn, civil society seems unable to make more than a minimal contribution to it, due to the factthat the large majority of people do not possess an extensive knowledge on these issues, nor do they attain the necessary academic instruction to achieve such knowledge. Furthermore, governments themselves do not have enough qualified advisors that consider educational sustainability a priority during their mandates, which means that frequently these commitments are nothing but good ideas that never get to be implemented in real life. Nonetheless, the awareness of sustainable development has gradually been infiltrating different social strata, in specific locations in the country, as the consequence of isolated actions national decrees, touristic interests and individual interests of some communities, among other initiatives.Academic programmes have also been incorporating the sustainable approach, while researchurges the achievement of results that take into account environmental preservation. |

Por otra parte, la sociedad civil solo puede intervenir con mínimas aportaciones debido a que no tienen un amplio conocimiento de estos problemas o porque no cuenta con la formación académica necesaria para lograrlo; además los gobiernos por su parte no cuentan en ocasiones con los asesores suficientes ni capacitados que tomen la sustentabilidad educativa como una prioridad de su mandato y los compromisos, muchas veces, se quedan en buenas intenciones sin aplicación en la realidad que vivimos.Poco a poco la conciencia del desarrollo sustentable ha ido permeando en diversos estratos de la sociedad, como pequeñas llamaradas en algunos lugares del país gracias a acciones aisladas, decretos nacionales, intereses turísticos y de intereses personales de algunas comunidades, entre otros. También se ha incorporado en los programas académicos el enfoque sustentable y en la investigación se impulsa la obtención de resultados que consideren la preservación del medio ambiente.Embora o compromisso mundial seja focado no desenvolvimento sustentável, não se pode negar que, lamentavelmente, no México, este compromisso tem sido, muitas vezes, parte dos discursos de grupos da elite governamental. A sociedade civil, em contrapartida, muito pouco pode contribuir por não possuir amploconhecimento desses problemas, uma vez que não conta com formação académica necessária para lográ-lo. Para além disso, os governos, em muitos casos, não contam assessores suficientemente treinados, que consideram a sustentabilidade educativa como uma prioridade em seus governos, ficando os compromissos, muitas vezes, em meros discursos bem intencionados sem aplicação na realidade em que vivemos. A consciência de um desenvolvimento mais sustentável, aos poucos, instala-se nas diversas camadas da sociedade, com pequenas ações em algumas partes do país, graças a ações isoladas, decretos nacionais, interesses turísticos ou interesses particulares de algumas comunidades, entre outros.
