The Portuguese constitutional monarchy reformed the justice, criminalized a greater number of behaviors, reinforced the selection and repression of violence against people and against property. In this context, we seek to ascertain how this transformation is reflected in sexual violence, in particular in the attack on modesty. We analyze a documentary corpus of twenty-five cases of the Judicial Court of the District of Loulé, Algarve, relating to this crime, from 1833 to 1913. Criminal law sought to curb the violent exercise of male domination and to protect the individual's self-determination in sexuality. However, in the attack on modesty, jurisprudence went beyond the discomfort caused to the accused in the criminal proceedings. From the 80s, victims, usually children and young women, or their guardians, intensified the pace of complaints, suggesting that the will to build a new model of relationships between men and women was still disseminated.
