Resumo: There are two events that set out this presentation. On the one hand, there is a “white blindness” dramatically expanding and quickly affecting many people who then must be in compulsory and collective quarantine and; on the other hand, the metaphor which Jose Saramago’s text allows us to uncover its timeless virtues as well as to understand the stereotypes and the otherness that characterize today’s humanity. The text sets out context-based interpretation relationships with life in all political-philosophical and sociocultural dimensions. It is therefore important to comprehend the manifestation and the discursive semantics of the novel as well as the relationship between the textual meaning and real life, changes in human behavior, ethical issues of knowing to how to be.
