Resumo: The objective of this paper is to provide an overview of the main potentials and challenges of implementing an AI system in public transport. Given the multidimensionality of cities and the operational excellence required in public transport, innovative technologies should be promoted mainly by external stakeholders due to uncertainty. From an internal perspective, public mobility organizations need to focus on the data and infrastructure required to implement a safe and human-centric AI approach. This will only be sustainable if it benefits everyone. In addition, the potential of SWOT as a helpful tool for defining successful AI strategies is highlighted.
