Resumo: This dissertation chooses as an object of study an urban sector in the Spanish city of Valencia: the El Cabanyal-Canyamelar neighborhood. This study focuses on issues of urban isolation that have affected the neighborhood since its foundation, prior to industrialization, until contemporary times, seeking to analyze urban and political factors that contributed to its degradation and / or regeneration. The investigation also tries to understand how these actions influenced and were fueled by the urban development of the historic maritime neighborhood, analyzing studies and plans developed in recent years by various entities and associations. As such, it proposes a critical reflection on how to intervene in heritage, taking advantage of its history and adapting it to current needs with the uncertainty of the future. Between the particularity of the social fabric and the patrimonial values of the physical fabric of this neighborhood, the relationship between them is also evident, creating a unique framework before conventional urban approaches. The participatory nature of the population and the resistance model built in parallel to the different phases of urbanism and the respective intervention policies, translate communicative conditions essential to the permanence of this community and its definition. The methodology of this study therefore passes through the analysis of the different urbanistic approaches to the neighborhood and the open result that they allow, in a reading grid with possible extractable coordinates to similar interventions in other territories. Through an analytical, chronological and critical "route" to the points that create this unique conjuncture in the Neighborhood, we will try to understand how to stimulate movement dynamics that the neighborhood's morphology raises and that will try to understand how they characterized it before of its period of degradation corresponding to the years when projects to extend an avenue were pressing residents to leave the neighborhood. The protection of residents and their culture combined with the encouragement of social and urban thoughts, open to new uses and community practices, with special attention to the promotion of the street and its relationship with the building - which is a strong point that this neighborhood had already had -, thus intend to raise awareness of a future intervention and regeneration strategy that integrates not only physical and spatial components, but also social and community ones, considered as a priority for the construction of more heterogeneous and multicultural societies.
