Resumo: | The present research aims to contribute to the study of housing for public promotion, in the first half of the twentieth century, in Coimbra. This type of housing results from the housings needs that were observed throughout the country, being the first state iniciatives in this period. These necessities led the state to create housing programs which were intended to house the working class. Thus, we started this work by studying the four programs that emerge with housing policies: Casas Económicas Program, Casas Desmontáveis Program, Casa para Famílias Pobres Program and Casas de Renda Económica Program. These programs were characterized by single-family housing with a small yard and for small urban settlements outside towns. Then, we focus mainly on the case of Coimbra, in which the first public districts led to growth of the city. In this sence, it was necessary to inventory all the districts, in order to perceive whither they had an impact on the city. Finally, we present a descriptive analysis of the case study of the Bairro Económico de Celas, in order to make a comparison in the sence of understanding the similarities that exist between the typologies of 1947 and those built today. |
