Resumo: As the role of the physician is irreplaceable, the organization of its activity constitutes a policy of interest to health systems that continue the challenges of accessibility, effectiveness and resilience. Through an empirical research, we analyse the theoretical-methodological and conceptual trends of the Portuguese policy of organizing medical activity. The absence of evidence of compatibility of the medical work regime with the period of operation of the services is observable in the Portuguese health system, generating situations of rupture in the periods of the night and weekends.
