This report is the result of a reflection exercise on the practice of supervised teaching, carried out throughout the academic year 2016/17, in the Romeu Correia school group. It aims to confirm the relevance picturebooks, as didactic resources, can have in the intercultural teaching learning process, due to its textual simplicity and ease of graphic interpretation, even in students with difficulties of understanding the foreign language. The literature review suggests that the use of picturebooks increases student engagement and potential learning, regardless of the level of education. The use of picturebooks in education is mostly associated with pre-school and first cycle levels, because they are short stories with a minimum number of characters and vivid illustrations. In the following teaching cycles, their use is mostly restricted to the encouragement of hard readers. It is our intention to present arguments that prove this type of text is an asset in the deconstruction and demystification of prejudices and stereotypes, promoting the development of cultural awareness in elementary and high school students.
